Karbean Holidays

The primary Karbean holiday is also a national one, Lenn ak ekes, the Meron new year. It takes place on the first day of spring. Typically it is celebrated with showers of flower petals, sweet candles, and—in the more old-fashioned temples—the sacrifice of a black cow.

Other Karbean holidays include Karbod’s birthday and the day he was killed, midsummer’s day, the autumnal equinox, and other less important holidays involving the celebration of the lives of prominent Karbeans. Each holiday was once commemorated with the sacrifice of an animal (a chicken, cow, goat, or pig) but a return to Karbod’s original ideals has resulted in the practice falling out of style.
