King Artet Myrelyris

During his reign, a faction of Old Clanmen in southern Meron rebelled. After they killed twelve of the Estallen judicial court members and raped their wives, Artet himself rode at the head of a massive force down to Estallen. Not a single man was killed in the ensuing conflict; Artet and his men snuck up on the dissenters, who, wine-sodden, slept in their encampment.

All ten men were hanged the following day. Artet might not have been so famous if it had ended there, but the event sparked a mass uprising in the south that included arson, skirmishes, angry mobs, riots, and a poisoning attempt on Artet, which killed his two daughters and left him weak and maimed. The next day he was carried to the market square of Kassen, where he sat under the clock tower and in a booming voice gave his famous Speech of a Thousand Voices.

The speech was written down by his brother and read in the squares of every village and city on Meron. A few months later, the dissenters were found and executed. Artet died three days after the beheadings. The six-pointed star on the Meron flag is for him.
