While women do travel alone, it’s much safer to be accompanied by men. Sexism is alive and well, certainly, and female travelers are more likely to be assaulted than male, but more importantly, Meron people have very distinct conceptions of gender roles. Especially in the northern provinces or if you dare venture into the mountains, you’ll find that women are not expected to travel, and if they do, they are escorted by men.
