He came to the throne and then died only three years thereafter, just as his namesake did. According to his recordkeeper:
“…we were astonished to learn the manner of his death. He was out riding his horse when he saw a cat up in a tree, so he climbed the tree and rescued it, for he was a kindhearted young man. He carried the cat down, enduring most grievous claw marks from its terrified feet.
When he had set it on the ground, he attempted to climb back up on his horse but missed the stirrup and broke his ankle. Thereupon, frighted with the pain, he hobbled along with arm caught round the horse’s side, but came upon a cow pasture and was stymied. He op’d the gate and went inside and was gored upon the horns of a bull.
This unfortunate death was most aggrieving and a great surprise, for he was by all accounts a very lucky man theretofore.”
