Of him, his own wife wrote,
“Three years past I wedded a man with a very sweet temper but a most ugly face. It is good I did not see him before our marriage, or I fear I would have wept to my farther until he relented and broke the engagement despite his magnificent station and the glory he could afford his country.
I only hope our first child, born a month hence, grows up to resemble me and not him.”
