While all the other regions of Meron were the domains of people of Eemeo descent, Eveltar Province is unique in that it is the one region where the Etanans were successful in pushing their way in from the coast. Eveltar Province has long since been assimilated into Meron culture, but the people there still tend to be lighter-skinned and -haired than those of Eemeo descent.
Despite its origins, Eveltar Province was the hardest hit of any during the Etanan war. Raiding parties regularly sailed along the coast burning fields and even sometimes whole villages. The custom of walling all cities, while now common to all of the south, originated in Eveltar Province as a means of safeguarding against attack. In addition, although it was initially settled by farmers, the people of Eveltar quickly gave up their crops because burning was so frequent that most people were unable to make a living at agriculture.
Eveltar Province therefore has more cities, towns, and villages than any other province, nearly all of them enclosed by stone walls. The high population density makes it also less comfortable than most other provinces, and the gap between rich and poor is greater than anywhere else in the country. People make their living chiefly through craftsmanship or mining; while West Province sits on rich clay deposits, the mountains of Eveltar Province are the best source of iron in the country. They are also quarried for rock, which is used to build homes, walls, and roads, the last of which gives Eveltar Province the best road system in the country, connecting all villages and towns with flat, even causeways.
