Myrelyr Province

Named for the man who built a kingdom and created a dynasty that would one day rule all of Meron, Myrelyr Province is both the geographic and the political center of Meron. While much of it remains farmland and it is not the most metropolitan province in the kingdom, it is considered the height of civilization.

Kassen, which is both the provincial capital and the king's seat, is the origin of much of the technology and science that exists today in Meron, in addition to being a gravitational point for many artists and musicians. It is home to the leadership of the Karbean faith and in Hoka Palk's famed book Wonders of Our World the city is called "a beacon of civilization standing in the midst of green fields and azure rivers, framed by glorious mountains and crowned by the palace of the kings."

While Palk waxes rhapsodic as to the wonders of Kassen and Myrelyr Province, it is not without its problems. Median wealth levels are pulled high by the concentration of rich people residing in the capital city, but the gap between rich and poor is nearly as extreme as in West Province and it also boasts the lowest illiteracy rate among ordinary citizens (the wealthy are excluded in this statistic as they, again, skew the numbers). However, all and all, the people of Myrelyr Province are more content than anywhere else, and a random sampling suggests that, unlike in other provinces, people are satisfied that their kind are listened to in the government. "It's our people as rule us," said one man, "an' better them than those as come from faraway places. We got a queen that's come from stock like us and a king that's a good man. Not much more a man can ask for."
