Belar, the capital of this province, is the oldest city in the country. It stands at the gap in the mountains, dividing the agriculturally oriented eastern half of the province from the rocky coastal villages which make their living on the seas.
This is indicative of the theme that has continued throughout the history of North Province, which has been torn between the rolling hills of the eastern farmland and the ragged cliffs of the sea since its inception. The people of western North in particular were staunchly supportive of secession, and when the northern rebellion was quashed their proposal to divide the province down the middle was unequivocally denied.
The mountain range that cuts a swath down the middle of the province is thee territory of the Nalaith, who, unlike their eastern cousins the Kwedith, were not drawn into the rebellion or even the Etanan war.
North Province's industries are split between fishing and settled agriculture, but the bulk of their wealth comes from trade, largely with the Korbeth, who ship goods to Kolus Port and have them shipped downriver. Though most people think of North Province as a rural, somewhat backwater province, it actually has four cities of note - more than any other province. They are, however, smaller than the cities of the south and less sophisticated, with the exception of Belar, which is the site of a second university.
